Ally Financial Crimes Data Analyst III in Charlotte, North Carolina

Position Description

The Senior Financial Crimes Data Analyst applies expertise in data analytics to ensure robust AML transaction monitoring is in place. This position will work in partnership with other AML analytics professionals and AML investigations to enhance and create scenarios/models to detect potential money laundering and terrorist financing activity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct tuning of existing suspicious transaction monitoring scenarios and develop new monitoring rules/models as needed

  • Play an active role in driving analytics strategy by championing new methodologies and emerging technologies

  • Provide analytical detail and narrative of findings to leadership

  • Onboard new products onto the AML Analytics transaction monitoring platforms

  • Streamline Operational processes for continued efficiencies

  • Perform ad-hoc analysis for other AML functions

  • Ensures day-to-day operations are conducted in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements and the organization's policy

  • Understanding of AML regulatory requirements, BSA, USA Patriot Act

  • Uses judgment, creativity and sound technical and analytical knowledge to develop and recommend solutions relating to company policies and standard practices

  • Assists in preparation of documentation for regulatory agencies as well as internal audit and testing teams


  • Education level: Minimum - Bachelors' Degree

  • Major field of study: Analytics, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science or related major

  • Total years and type of prior related experience: 4+ years in banking/finance industry or data analytics

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Ability to prioritize workload and balance multiple duties

  • Possess independent analytical skills

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment

Specific technical knowledge needed to perform this job :

  • Proficient in SQL and/or SAS

  • Experience performing basic/intermediate statistical analysis preferred (regression, outlier analysis, etc.)

  • Strong research skills

  • Experience with machine learning techniques is a plus (decision trees, neural networks, etc.)
